2/17/09 Regular Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, February 6, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Administration Building.

Chairman Long called the meeting to order.

INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Invocation was led by Rev. John Allen and the pledge of allegiance was led by Chairman Long.

WELCOME
Chairman Long welcomed everyone to the meeting.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Long asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session February 3, 2009, and the Regular Meeting February 3, 2009, Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS

  • BUDGET AMENDMENT TO ACCEPT A $1,000 DONATION FOR THE ANIMAL SHELTER
    County Administrator Dowling advised that this is a budget amendment to accept a donation of $1,000 from Dale and Joan Bentley for use at the Animal Shelter for animal needs.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve acceptance of the $1,000 donation to the Animal Shelter. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Gordon, Bailey, Hood and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.


  • APPOINTMENT TO THE GORDON COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND CHILDREN SERVICES BOARD FOR A TERM ENDING 6/30/2014
    County Administrator Dowling advised that this is an appointment to the Gordon County Department of Family and Children Services Board. Gordon County has received a letter from the Department of Family and Children Services recommending Tom Petty for the vacancy on the Board for the law enforcement position.
    Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the appointment. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Hood, Gordon, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
  • RE-APPOINTMENT OF ELIAS RODRIGUEZ TO THE GORDON COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND CHILDREN SERVICES BOARD FOR A 5-YEAR TERM ENDING 6/30/2013
    County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that this is a re-appointment to the Gordon County Department of Family and Children Services Board for Elias Rodriquez for a five-year term ending 6/30/2013.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the re-appointment of Elias Rodriguez. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Hood, Gordon, Bailey, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.


  • TRUST FOR PUBLIC LANDS SUPPORT LETTERS FROM BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR RESACA BATTLEFIELD CONSERVATION EASEMENT ON THE CHITWOOD FARM
    County Attorney Hutchinson advised the Board that this is a request from the Trust for Public Lands for the Board to authorize the Chairman to execute two letters of support. The Trust for Public Lands has acquired the Chitwood Farm, which is the location for the annual Battle of Resaca. The Trust for Public Land has asked Gordon County to sign a letter agreeing to be the government sponsor for a grant from the American Battlefield Protection program in connection with preservation of the tract of land known as the Chitwood Farm. The second letter of support is also to the American Battlefield Protection program, and is a request by Trust for Public Lands that Gordon County serve as a holder of the conservation easement which would preserve the property as it is in perpetuity.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to authorize the Chairman to sign the two letters of support. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Gordon, Hood, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.

ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Bailey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
