2/17/09 Work Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the Administration Building Conference Room.

Chairman Long called the meeting to order.

The Board discussed each item on the Agenda for the Regular Meeting and made no changes; one additional item was added to the Agenda later in the Work Session.

Mr. Rick Wood with the Trust for Public Land came before the Board to give a status report on the Chitwood Farm project and Resaca Battlefield conservation easement. Mr. Wood advised that the Trust for Public Land is requesting that the County issue two support letters approving the confirmation of the $100,000 commitment toward the cost of the conservation easement and Gordon County agrees to be the sponsor for the grant. There was a consensus of the Board to add this item to the Agenda for Board consideration.

Administrator Dowling advised the Board that a letter had been received from the Board of Health requesting an air quality and environmental assessment of the inside the building of the Environmental Health Department. Following a lengthy discussion concerning the previous improvements already done on the building, the consensus of the Board was to deny the request.

Magistrate Judge Marvin Broyles came before the Board requesting a pay increase for the Chief Constable of the Magistrate Court based on the Classification and Compensation Study that was adopted by the Board in 2007. There was a consensus of the Board to ask the Judge to submit this request during the upcoming budget year for fiscal 2009-2010.

Mr. Chris Paul with the Public Defenders Office came before the Board to request that a surplus of funds in his current budget be used as a salary supplement. The consensus of the Board was to ask Mr. Paul to submit a request for pay raises during the upcoming budget year for fiscal 2009-2010.

Commissioner Bailey made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and all voted aye.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
