3/02/10 Regular Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Administration Building

Chairman Long called the meeting to order.

INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Invocation was led by Rev. John Allen and the pledge of allegiance was led by Chairman Long.

WELCOME
Chairman Long welcomed everyone to the meeting.

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION – Employee of the Month for March
Chairman Long read the list of Employees celebrating their hire dates in the month of March. Commissioner Bailey drew the name of Beau Nicholson as employee for month of March.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Long asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session February 16, 2010, and the Regular Meeting February 16, 2010. Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.

ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT

Administrator Dowling advised that he has distributed the Fiscal Year 2010/2011 Budget Packages to all budgeted Departments.

COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT

Chairman Long commented on the status of the proposed Resaca Battlefield Park and advised that at this time all indications were that the plans will not move forward. The Board has contacted our State Representative Meadows to discuss any alternative plans that could be discussed with the State concerning the funds that were earmarked for the project.

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS

 

  • PROCLAMATION FOR HELPING HANDS AND LINKING ARMS DAY
    Chairman Long read the proclamation and presented it to Mr. Matt Mockett with the Church of Latter Day Saints who was sponsoring the Service Day. Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the Proclamation. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Gordon, and Long voted aye. Motion passed
  • PROCLAMATION FOR GEORGIA CENSUS WEEK
    Chairman Long read the proclamation by title declaring March 8 to March 14, 2010 as Georgia CensusWeek. Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the Proclamation. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Gordon, and Long voted aye. Motion passed.

COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – GENERAL
None

OTHER BOARD BUSINESS
County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that the courthouse roof replacement project is coming to a conclusion. After paying all remaining estimated bills, the SPLOST account will have about $520,000 remaining. It is the architect’s recommendation to replace or rehabilitate all the old windows and renovate the front plaza area. The Board discussed additional Courthouse renovations and the addition of a fountain and there was a consensus of the Board to proceed with plans and specifications for new windows and front plaza renovations.

ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Gordon made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
