3/03/09 Regular Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Administration Building.

Chairman Long called the meeting to order.

INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Invocation was led by David Mitchell and the pledge of allegiance was led by Chairman Long.

WELCOME
Chairman Long welcomed everyone to the meeting.

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION
Chairman Long read the list of employees with anniversary hire dates in March. County Clerk Annette Berry drew the name of Rick O’Mahony as employee of the month for March.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Long asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session February 17, 2009, and the Regular Meeting February 17, 2009, Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.

ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT
None

COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT
Commissioner Hood reminded everyone of the town hall meeting on March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sonoraville Recreation Complex, hosted by Commissioner Hood and State Representative Tom Graves.

CONSIDERATION OF OLD BUSINESS

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS

  • BID AWARD TO PROVIDE NEW UNIFORMS AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT FOR JAIL EMPLOYEES
    County Administrator Dowling advised that this is a bid award for new uniforms and other equipment for jail employees. Gordon County solicited for bids and six vendors responded. The recommendation is to approve Galls to provide trousers, belts, handcuff pouches, flashlight cases, and glove pouches; and to approve Pokey’s to provide shirts.
    Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the recommendations for Galls and Pokey’s. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and Commissioners Gordon, Bailey, Hood and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
  • BID AWARD FOR A NEW PICKUP TRUCK FOR THE CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
    County Administrator Dowling advised that this is a bid award to provide and equip a new pickup truck for the Code Enforcement Officer. Gordon County solicited for bids and six vendors responded with bids. The recommendation is to approve Prater Ford to provide and equip a Ford F-150 4×4. Funds are to come from the insurance reimbursement from the previous truck and equipment.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the recommendation of Prater Ford. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Hood, Gordon, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
  • RURAL FIRE DEFENSE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH GEORGIA FORESTRY COMMISSION
    County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that this is a Rural Fire Defense memorandum of understanding between Georgia Forestry Commission and the Gordon County Fire Department to provide mutual assistance for fire and emergency service.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the memorandum of understanding and authorize the Chairman to execute the document. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Hood, Gordon, Bailey, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.

ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Bailey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
