4/07/09 Regular Session Minutes
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Administration Building.
Chairman Long called the meeting to order.
INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Invocation was led by Rev. John Allen and the pledge of allegiance was led by Chairman Long.
WELCOME
Chairman Long welcomed everyone to the meeting.
EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION
Chairman Long read the list of employees with anniversary hire dates for the month of April. Chairman Long drew the name of Kenneth Hackney as Employee of the Month.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Chairman Long read a proclamation for National Telecommunicator’s Week and presented the proclamation to Ms. Debbie Vance, Director of E-911.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Long asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session March 17, 2009, and the Regular Meeting March 17, 2009, Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.

COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT
Commissioner Gordon announced that St. Timothy Presbyterian Church has donated a piano to the Boys and Girls Club.

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS
- BID AWARD TO SELL FOUR SURPLUS PATROL CARS
County Administrator Dowling advised that Gordon County solicited for bids from qualified bidders to purchase four surplus Sheriff’s patrol vehicles from Gordon County. Three bids were received and the recommendation is to approve the bid from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office in the amount of $9,600 for all four patrol vehicles.
Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the bid from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and Commissioners Gordon, Hood, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
- APPROVAL OF REQUEST FOR FUNDING TO UNITED WAY FOR RECREATION DEPARTMENT
County Administrator Dowling advised that this is approval of a Request for Funding to United Way of Gordon County for the Recreation Department in the amount of $10,000. Those funds would be used to pay for children’s registration who could not afford to pay to participate on a team for a sport being offered at the Recreation Department.
Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the Recreation Department submitting a Request for Funding in the amount of $10,000 to the United Way of Gordon County. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and Commissioners Hood, Gordon, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
- GRANT PROPOSAL FOR DRUG COURT
County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that this is a request from the Cherokee Circuit Drug Court for funding from a Department of Homeland Security Justice Assistant grant to hire a part-time drug counselor. This is a funding request that will be submitted on behalf of the Drug Court; Gordon County is in the 30-day commenting period right now. This is for soliciting public comment for 30 days on this grant application.
Commissioner Hood made a motion to approve the request. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Hood, Gordon, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.

Commissioner Hood made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
