6/02/09 Regular Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the main Courtroom of the Gordon County Courthouse.

Chairman Long called the meeting to order.

INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Invocation was led by Rev. John Allen and the pledge of allegiance was led by Chairman Long.

WELCOME
Chairman Long welcomed everyone to the meeting.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
Chairman Long read the list of employees with anniversary hire dates for the month of June. Commissioner Bailey drew the name of Greg Hasty as employee of the month. Commissioner Gordon made a motion to open the public hearing. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and all voted aye.

PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE FISCAL 2009/2010 RECOMMENDED BUDGET
County Attorney Hutchinson advised the Board that there is no one signed to speak concerning the public hearing. Commissioner Bailey made a motion to close the public hearing. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and all voted aye.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Long asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session May 19, 2009, and the Regular Meeting May 19, 2009. Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.

CONSIDERATION OF OLD BUSINESS

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS

  • RESOLUTION TO DISPOSE OF THREE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT VEHICLES
    County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that the Sheriff’s Department wishes to dispose of three surplus vehicles and sell at public auction. Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the resolution to dispose of the three vehicles. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Gordon, and Hood voted aye. Motion passed.
  • CONTRACT WITH NORTH GEORGIA COMMUNITY ACTION FOR THE 5311 VAN PROGRAM
    County Administrator Dowling advised that this is a contract with North Georgia Community Action to operate the Section 5311 Rural Public Transportation Program in Gordon County for fiscal year 2009/2010. North Georgia Community Action serves as the Third Party Operator for the provision of this transportation service.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the contract and allow the Chairman to sign on behalf of the Board. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Gordon, and Hood voted aye. Motion passed.
  • AMEND MOTION TO ELIMINATE RETIRED EMPLOYEE’S HEALTH INSURANCE
    County Administrator Dowling advised that the Board wishes to amend the previous motion eliminating the retired employee’s health insurance benefit. Commissioner Bailey made a motion to amend the previous motion, and keep the retired employee health benefit, allowing employees after they reach the age of 60, with 25 years of service to be eligible for that benefit. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Gordon, Hood, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.

ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Bailey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
