9/21/10 Work Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 5:30 pm. in the Conference Room of the Administration Building.

Chairman Long called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

Mr. Dan McBee with New Echota Rivers Alliance came before the Board to request the Board to declare October 9th as Rivers Alive river clean-up and Going Green in Gordon County with a countywide litter pickup. Mr. McBee asked that a proclamation from the Board declare the second Saturday in October each year as a permanent date for future river cleanup days in Gordon County. Mr. McBee asked for help from the County in getting free litter disposal at the landfill for this clean-up day. There was a consensus of the Board to add this item for approval to the Agenda for tonight’s Regular Meeting.

Mr. McBee also asked the Board to approve the naming of boat ramps in Gordon County and asked that we get in touch with the DHR and make a recommendation to the DHR that they name the ramps in Gordon County. The County Attorney advised that the ramp on Hwy. 156 may need to be named after the father of the previous owners of the land that the boat ramp is on, and that the County may have agreed to do that during the negotiations when acquiring the property. The County Attorney will look into the contract and talk to the DHR to determine this.

The Board discussed each item on the Agenda and made no changes or deletions.

Chairman Long advised that he has received a request from the Sheriff’s Department for Board approval to add two part time positions. Sheriff’s Department states that no budget amendment would be necessary as the budget has funds to cover two part time positions. County Administrator asked for time to consult the budget to determine if the Sheriff’s budget does have funds available. This item will be considered at the next Board work session.

MacTec representatives spoke to the Board and gave an update concerning the project for the current renovation of the Courthouse plaza.

Commissioner Gordon made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
