Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-540, a special election shall be held in the City of Fairmount to fill the vacancy in the office of City Council Post #1, due to the resignation of Tim Griggs. The special election will be held on November 4, 2014, at the Fairmount Community Center, 11921 Fairmount Hwy, Fairmount, Georgia from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. A runoff, if necessary shall be held on December 2, 2014.
Qualifying for the special election shall be held at the Fairmount City Hall located at 2265 Hwy 411, Fairmount, Georgia, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014, and ending at 12 o’clock NOON on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. The qualifying fee shall be $27.00 for City Council Post #1.
Early voting will begin on Monday, October 13, 2014, and will end on Friday, October 31, 204. To cast your ballot early you will go to the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office located in the Gordon County Annex Building at 101 S. Piedmont Street, Calhoun, Georgia. Office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Absentee voting by mail will begin on Friday, September 19, 2014 and the last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is on Friday, October 31, 2014. To request an absentee ballot by mail contact the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration office at 706-629-7781.
The last day to register to vote for the municipal special election is Monday, October 6, 2014. Registration is available at the Gordon County Board of Elections Office, City Hall or other locations as required by Georgia Law.
