The following roads have been closed to thru traffic due to flooding: Union Grove Road, Lick Creek Road, Hayes Road, Pendley Road, and Brookshire Road have been closed due to flooding.
The following roads have experienced high waters but are passable as of Monday (9/11) 11:00 PM: Farmville Road, Dodd Road, and Johnson Lake Road.

September 11, 2017 5:30 PM Update
Gordon County and City of Calhoun officials continue to monitor the tropical storm and the Emergency Operating Center is staffed through out the storm.
The National Weather Service issued an email statement as of 5:30 PM.
IRMA will continue to impact north and central Georgia through this evening with improving conditions overnight.
As of 5pm (Monday 9/11), Irma is centered between Albany and Cordele, moving north-northwest around 17 MPH. Irma remains a tropical storm with maximum (sustained) winds of 50 MPH. An additional 1-3 inches of rain can be expected, with locally higher amounts possible. River/stream and creek flooding is expected to increase through the evening as additional rainfall occurs over areas that have received 2-5 inches of rain already. Be prepared for river FLOOD WARNINGS through the evening. Wind gusts of 30-50 mph will continue through the evening hours with a few gusts reaching 60 mph at times. After midnight, winds and rain should gradually diminish but expect gusts > 30 mph through daybreak Tuesday across all of north and central GA.
Due to non-participation, the temporary shelter that was at the Sonoraville Recreation Complex has been closed.
Please continue to exercise caution through this evening, especially after dark where it will be more challenging to see debris and trees blocking roadways, etc.

Gordon County is under a Flash Flood Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning. Heavy rains from Irma will spread over north and central Georgia beginning sometime on Monday and will continue through Tuesday. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches are possible with isolated higher amounts, especially in the higher terrain of the mountains. These rainfall amounts will likely lead to flash flooding.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
A Tropical Storm Warning means Tropical storm wind conditions, 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph, are expected somewhere within this area from Sunday through Tuesday. Some areas may experience stronger wind conditions.

Government Offices and School Closures
Gordon County Government
The Gordon County Government offices are closed and all non-essential services are canceled for Monday (9/11) and Tuesday (9/12) in caution of the pending storm. Public Works and Public Safety employees will report to work as scheduled.
The Gordon County Board Of Commissioner’s meeting on September 12 has been canceled and will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
Jurors Rescheduled
Gordon County GRAND Jurors scheduled to report to the Annex Courtroom Monday, September 11, 2017 are rescheduled to Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., also to the Annex Courtroom.
CIVIL TRIAL Jurors who were summoned to the Main Courtroom for Monday should call the “Jury Information” telephone number (listed on their Summons) again on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 after 6:00 p.m. for further instructions.
City of Calhoun Government
In response to Gov. Deal’s declaration that all of Georgia is now under a state of emergency, City of Calhoun offices will be closed tomorrow and all non-essential services are canceled for Monday and Tuesday morning. We will evaluate conditions closer to time, but will possibly reopen at noon on Tuesday. All Public Safety, Public Works, and essential Utility Service Workers will be on duty. Also, tomorrow’s noon City Council work session and 7:00pm City Council meeting are canceled.

Gordon County Chamber of Commerce
In response to the state of emergency and predicted severe weather, the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce will be closed on Monday, September 11, 2017 and Tuesday, September 12, 2017. All committee meetings will be cancelled, in keeping with the same schedules as other governing authorities. We urge families and Chamber members to stay alert to weather warnings and stay safe in the impending severe weather event. Please take heed of all the notifications and warnings.

Calhoun City and Gordon County Schools
In response to Gov. Deal’s declaration that all of Georgia is now under a state of emergency, Calhoun City Schools and Gordon County Schools have made the decision to close schools to students and staff on Monday, September 11 and Tuesday, September 12 in anticipation of severe weather in our area stemming from the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Tropical Storm force winds that are forecast have a significant potential to cause down power lines and trees, making transportation to and from school treacherous for our staff and students. All after school activities will also be cancelled for these two days.
School officials urge families and community members to stay alert to weather warnings and stay safe during the impending severe weather event.

September 11, 2017 12:00 PM Briefing
Gordon County and City of Calhoun officials participated in a National Weather Service / GEMA briefing today (9/11) at 12:00 PM.
Gordon County is still under a Flash Flood Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning.
Gordon County is currently experiencing rain from the other bands of the storm. The National Weather Service is still estimating a sustained wind of 30-45 mph for the Gordon County area with wind gust of 45-55 mph.
Gordon County and City of Calhoun officials will fully activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) beginning on Monday (9/11) at 2:00 PM. City and County public safety and public works departments are fully staffed and are making preparations for the storm.
The Sonoraville Parks and Recreation Complex will be open as a shelter from the strong winds beginning at 2:00 PM. This shelter will not have cots or food available. This is only a shelter from the strong winds and rain.

September 10, 2017 8:30 PM Briefing
Gordon County and City of Calhoun officials participated in a National Weather Service / GEMA briefing this evening (9/10) at 8:30 PM.
As of this briefing, the National Weather Service is estimating that Gordon County will see the first outer bands of rain approximately at 11:00 AM on Monday (9/11). Gordon County may see a sustained wind of 25-35 mph with wind gust of up to 45 mph in the afternoon hours. As the evening progresses, Gordon County could see wind gust of 45-55 mph. These strong winds can last into the early hours of Tuesday (9/12) morning.

September 9, 2017 8:30 PM Briefing
City and County Officials met tonight at 8:30 PM for a weather briefing. There have been no changes at this point. The track of the hurricane still continues to track westward and we are still showing the chance for severe weather. We are actively monitoring the situation and at this point, it looks like we will not see impacts until later in the evening on Monday. We will have our next briefing at 12:00 PM tomorrow.
September 8, 2017 12:00 PM Briefing
County and City Officials took place in a weather briefing at 12:00 today. During this briefing, we found that the Hurricane once again has shifted its course. We will continue to monitor the weather throughout the weekend and will provide a weather statement as we get closer to the beginning of the week. At this time people should continue to monitor the local weather stations and be alert and prepared for severe weather if the storm continues on its current track.
