On March 31, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. the Gordon County Board of Commissioners, along with the Camber of Commerce, held a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Gordon County Government Plaza.
This location has served as a landmark for our community since it was built in 1961 for the Calhoun First National Bank. The building was later acquired by BB&T, but today it serves all of the Gordon County as the new home for the offices of the Tax Commissioner, Tax Assessor, and Elections & Voter Registration.
Commission Chair Becky Hood stated “I would like to thank Bill Davies with BB&T in working with the county in the purchasing of this building. I would also like to thank Pieper O’Brien Herr architects for their technical expertise and thank you to Momon Construction for their hard work and the remarkable job that they did.”
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners would also like to thank the Mayor and staff of the City of Calhoun for replacing the sidewalk in front of the plaza and for willingness to help with the electrical lines if needed.
The relocation of the offices mentioned above and newly available space will facilitate the next phase of our courthouse renovations project, which is a SPLOST project.
