ULDC Code Section 4.03.02 Amendment Approved
As of July 22, 2015 the temporary moratorium on new and expanding poultry operations has ended with the Gordon County Board of Commissioners adopting an amendment to the Unified Land Development Code (ULDC) code section 4.03.02. Click here to download the amended section of the ULDC code section.

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners, at their Regular Meeting last evening, voted to extend the 60-day moratorium on new and expanding poultry operations through July 21, 2015.
The purpose of the additional extension of the moratorium is to give the Board of Commissioners time in order to complete the legal process required to make an amendment to the Unified Land Development Code concerning poultry operations.
May 11, 2015
On Monday May 11, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. the Board of Commissioners held a special called meeting at the Gordon County Agricultural Service Center. During this meeting the board approved an amendment to the existing moratorium on new / expanding poultry operations.
The amendment equates to a pause in the moratorium from Tuesday May 12, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. through Tuesday May 19, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. for those who were already substantially invested and near the completion of the permit phase.
Applicants must submit the following:
- A fully completed building permit application(s)
- A copy of your recorded deed and plat
- A copy of your Notice of Intent (N.O.I.) from EPD, a copy of the certified mail, return receipt dated prior to May 6, 2015
- A copy of an Environmental Health Department certificate indicating a septic permit is not required and the structures will not interfere with an existing system.
Gordon County will not accept applications for zoning changes or approvals, land disturbance permits nor issue any decisions for any such applications for new commercial poultry operations or the expansion of existing commercial poultry operations prior to the release of the moratorium by the Gordon County Board of Commissioners.
The Board of Commissioners also stated any variance concerning poultry production that has been approved in the past few months is still valid.
The Board of Commissioners also held a public hearing concerning amending the ULDC code section 4.03.02 E (Supplemental Standards for Agricultural and Farming Operations). Many citizens and representatives were present to address the board.
May 6, 2015
At the May 5, 2015 Board of Commissioner’s meeting, the board approved a temporary moratorium on the acceptance of applications for zoning approvals, building permits, land disturbance permits, and any other approvals or permits, or processing of or issuance of decisions on any such applications, regarding new commercial poultry operations or the expansion of existing commercial poultry operations.
This temporary moratorium is to allow the Board to receive public comment and to make the best decision possible for all concerned.
